Vintage Radha Krishna Sharma sitar
~
Kharaj pancham
setting ~
7 main strings ~ 11 sympathetics
A local player in retirement offered this
to us and gladly accepted! Made in 1971, this is
#247 of Radha Krishna Sharmas production. He was a
very good maker, known for great open sound, Ravi
Shankar style. He passed away long ago and now the
name is still there but they're nothing like when he
was alive. Originally from Bihar, he was also the
uncle of Mohan Lal Sharma whos work continues via
his son Rajesh. These older bodies were made by a
craftsman named Lankeshwar who worked for Radha
Krishna, Hiren Roy, and Hemen. Even though this was
his regular model, the workmanship is exquisite as
is the wood.
The tone character is 3/4 open, great
sympathetic response. It has all the original antler
bridges and hardware, fresh jawari done by us in
exactly the same style and the instrument has been
regenerated to original condition. Top gourd is
smaller but natural, brass langot. Minimal wear and
shop rash, larger size and VG condition! Original
owners phone number etched on the back of headstock,
had 1 owner only. Comes with your choice of a
used fiberglass double tumba case or a rexine double
tumba fiberglass case. Please
email with any questions or for a sound
clip, etc.
