Shehnai. Made in Varanasi by Mohammed Safis family, maker of Bismillah Khans instruments. The best quality available, come with a reed kit and 4 varied size reeds plus tools. Made of teak wood with nickel silver bell. A very difficult instrument to master but rewarding and a beautiful sound for those willing to learn. Shenais are not returnable due to health code. A teacher or familiarity with reed instruments is recommended. Sizes are 17 inches (approx. C#), 16 inches (approx. D), 15 inches (approx. D#), 14 inches (approx. E). Gopichand. Also called Ektara, we get these from a US wholesaler. Cheap and fun to play, a popular folk instrument in India.

Dotara (Bass Ektara) by Naeem Sitarmaker

After seeing these numerous times via Bhagavan Das, etc. I looked around to see what was available. Only very cheap $50 instruments basically with bamboo necks that bend under tension, and the internet is flooded with them.  So here's our answer, a professional ektara by Naeem Sitarmaker! The neck is made from mahogany with a one piece Pandharpur gourd, it's top of the line and quite expensive to make at this level. Hardwood pegs offset with a hardwood bridge. Natural shellac polish, and inlaid celluloid bands..... Comes with a fiberglass case. In Miraj they call them Ektara, others call them Dotara as they have two strings so local definitions will vary, please view to confirm. We can ship direct at no extra cost and try to have one in stock whenever possible here in the US.  Shipping charge is the same as a sitar due to the large size.
