We've 'known' this sitar for a number of years and it came up for sale due to non-use and we didn't hesitate! It hasn't been played much, original deer horn bridge with low wear! Very open jawari with a Ravi Shankar type sound and other than very minor chips on the main gourd this instrument is very nice for its age. A flawless quarter-sawn tabli, japanese celluloid with exquisite penwork rarely seen anymore. Whole gourd, not sectioned with the stem base left on....the top tumba is spun wood ~ large size. These older Radha Krishna Sharma sitars are quite nice and pre-date the commonly seen factory produced instruments that came after the maker passed away. Serial number 386 stamped in the wood.

DURGA SAROD

Vintage quality!

A beautiful sarod made by Durga Babu. It's approximately 60 years old and had a new skin and langot (tailpiece) on it along with a new upper bridge. The work was done by Dulal in India last year. This particular instrument was owned by a student of Radhika Mohan Maitra and was played on for 18 years by him until he retired from music.

Durga Babu was a famous sarod maker from the 1930's to the 1960's and his instruments were favored by musicians such as Radhika Mohan Maitra, Dabir Khan, Shyam Gangoly and others. He was considered by many to be the best maker of his time before Hemen came along. His shop was in Howrah, across the river from Calcutta.

This particular instrument has a sound you would expect from one its age and is made of Tun (mahogany) wood. Has the older pegs and original brass tumba on it, replaced parts have been kept and come with it. Comes with a brown padded fiberglass case

Hiren Roy Vilayat Khan style Concert Sitar

Aged premium mahogany (tun) wood. Rosewood Sprial main pegs with plain sympathetic pegs. This is Barun's top of the line model and was bought from Bharat of Sitarsetc.com a few years ago. The owner never played it and it has it's original jawari from Barun, basically a brand new sitar. We have restrung it with Barun's strings, it has a closed baaj string, a very dark closed tone but with good resonant sympathetic strings. Thicker construction (which I like), a good lifetime sitar to be broken in to your playing style. Synthetic jawari.....Better than the last used HR VK we had, everything will be handled by us and satisfaction guaranteed along with our full new instrument return policy! Comes with a fiberglass hard case and case cover with backpack style straps included in the price.

HANSA VEENA

Custom made for Barun Kumar Pal!

A beautiful Indian slide guitar ~ Hansa Veena owned by Barun Kumar Pal. Originally designed by Ravi Shankar and Bishan Das Sharma of Rikhi Ram, the Hansa Veena has gained in popularity in recent years.

This instrument was specially designed for Barun Kumar Pal and played for 6 months. He is regularly presented with these instruments and so when this one became available we couldn't refuse as this instrument is much better in quality than the standard offering from Manoj Kumar Sardar... It has had all adjustments made which is a big advantage for this type of instrument. The top tumba is spun wood ~ mahogany.

Made of seasoned mahogany, lightly used, comes with a fiberglass case and fingerpicks and slide bar. Shipping is $70 to US lower 48.
