Mohan Lal Sharma Sitar
Teak
concert sitar in munda style by Rajesh Sharma, son
of Mohan Lal Sharma
Kharaj Pancham
(Ravi Shankar style)
I had first seen/played this sitar back in
the Spring of 2011 and unfortunately couldn't take
it as I already had a full load for the plane back.
It was most fortunate that is was still available
this Fall! This is one of the best sitars I have
ever played, in the top 10 definitely.
Rajesh Sharma was trained well by his
father Mohan Lal, who has since passed away. His
main shop is in Patna but he has a small shop in
Varanasi also. Mohan Lal's knowledge came from
almost 30 years of working with Radha Krishna Sharma
and was the only person fully trained by him.
This sitar features premium teak wood,
Japanese celluloid and each sympathetic peg inlay
was carefully made by Rajesh. It is one of his top
models and made in the munda (means 'bald') style.
Bridges and fitting are made from natural materials,
an extra bridge in ebony is included for practice
and is 1mm higher, fitted by Rajesh to this sitar.
$175 extra for fiberglass case upgrade.
