1971 Rikhiram
Pre-owned Kharaj
Pancha/Ravi Shakar style from
You don't see
these very often, in fact this particular design I
haven't had through here before. You'll recognize
the garland celluloid design below the bridge as
it's similar to George Harrisons sitar.
Rikhiram has
used a number of different sources to make their
instrument. The early 70's were a great time and
I've seen quite a variety of different structure
makers under this label. Structures back then were
all made quite well with proper thicknesses.
This sitar is in
beautiful condition and fully refurbished here with
fitting, favors a more open tone. It's made of tun
wood with hardwood pegs, all original parts are
present, looks like it was just stored away for
years. Beautiful colors on the gourds, the top tumbi
is spun wood however quite thick and larger and all
bone tip/pieces on leaves are present. Bridges and
langot are antler and border inlays are ebony and
antler with celluloid otherwise and tight penwork.
Action is
standard height with a flatter fret setting, 3/4
open jawari. Comes with fiberglass cases and
accessories kit. This is a consignment sitar and all
sales final please.
