HARMONIUM TUNING &

REPAIR SERVICES

An essential part of your harmonium experience depends on proper tuning and operation. Most harmoniums out of India need some TLC to function properly. We offer experienced tuning and repair services at a reasonable rate. Here are the details:

RATES FOR TUNING AND REPAIRS: $60 per hour or $50 per hour if the instrument was bought from us. 1 hour minimum. Parts are additional if needed. We stock a wide variety of parts but in certain circumstances may have to order them from India . All work is done in a traditional style generally just as in India with a few exceptions. I do a very thorough tuning over 3 days (called hand tuning) followed by ear tuning for the best results.

PACKING FEE: If you ship us your harmonium the packing fee is per hour, usually 1 hour. If better materials are needed to ensure safe arrival back then this is additional.

SHIPPING FEE: We only charge what it costs us to ship your harmonium back to you plus any shipping materials, we DO NOT mark up shipping.

SCALE CHANGER HARMONIUMS: We do not accept scale changer harmoniums via the mail or FedEx, etc. for tuning and/or repair. I'm sorry about this but due to the weight and complicated construction the damage rate is too high. A simple tuning of a scale changer can easily turn into a full rebuild after shipping. It's just too difficult, unless you INSIST of course.....You are most welcome to bring your scale changer in person to us in Ocean Shores, WA

GROUPS, YOGA CENTERS, ETC: If you are in the Pacific NW and have a number of instruments then it's possible to arrange a visit to avoid shipping hassles and charges. I require and 8 hour minimum plus travel time anywhere outside of a 100 mile radius of Ocean Shores, WA. Outside of the PNW it's possible as well if there are enough instruments to work on.

SPECIALIZED TUNINGS: Most harmoniums are sharp of A440, I'm happy tune to any mean you would like but it takes longer to do. Generally the harmoniums is tuned to itself, we find the average mean it's tuned to and match the reeds to that. If your reeds have enough material on them then A432 tuning is possible but I don't recommend it as it will decrease the life of your reeds since they have to be thinned out a great deal to achieve this lower tuning. Something to think about but anything is possible within reason.

A432 ~ cosmic tuning: I get instruments in for this tuning or conversion back to A440. A few things to keep in mind if you want this. First, it's a good idea not to convert an A432 tuning back to A440 unless there's sufficient reed thickness. This is more likely on a new harmonium with brass reeds. Reed life is decreased with a conversion back to A440 due to loss of material. Also A432 instruments don't work with other instruments unless they're tuned to the same mean so consider this before ordering an instrument like this.

Some reviews:

Hi Lars,

Just wanted to let you know, it is such a joy not only to have our harmoniums back but to hear them in a whole new way in our hall! It has been a couple of months since I've been able to play the smaller one, so it's hard to compare exactly what it sounded like before, but I do feel that it has much more clarity and focus. Also, the keys are much more responsive since they don't stick!!!

Tonight our other harmonium player played the larger one, and to me, that one sounded at least 300% better than it used to! (Of course I didn't like it as much to begin with but I definitely like it better now!) Plus, I love that you changed the one drone stop to G instead of F#. I've told the folks who use the drone in the AM program, so at least we have a Plan B if we want to use it that way.

J**** and I had such a great time coming up, and it was fun to see your other harmoniums and how you did the work. All in all, it was a very enjoyable and productive trip!

Molly M. @ the Movement Center, Portland, OR. (Please visit them if in the Portland area and hear for yourself!)

Thank you Lars.
I played her yesterday and it is improved for sure.
Best and Blessings to you AllWays,
Heather

Hi Lars:

Just want to thank you once again for the great service.   I picked up the instrument today and the difference is night and day; really amazing.  I wonder how I could stand it so long now that I hear what the instrument is truly capable of.

Thanks much

Joaquín
