Hemen mahogany Sitar
Full
decoration, dual-color penwork concert sitar from Hemen
Sen. Ravi Shankar ~ Kharaj Pancham design, made from
tun/Indian mahogany.
This sitar is a consignment which we were
most happy to take. It is approximately 25 years old.
Was owned by a local luthier who took the finish to
the next level on the sitar. Top gourd also polished
but left as original from the maker color-wise and
slight checking in the polish but stabilized.
This is vintage Hemen work when he was at
his best and was using local craftsmen who are now
long gone as you can tell by the carvings. Has
a 14 1/2 inch tabli It has all antler bridges and
langot with a 1/2 open jawari on both bridges, more
of a Nikhil Banerjee type sound which is uncommon
with this maker. It's a solid instrument with good
weight, not played a whole lot in its life as you
can see. Very good sustain....Comes with a
double tumba rexine/leatherette case. Completely
setup and ready to go....
