Hemen Mahogany/tun Sitar

Half decoration, dual color penwork concert sitar from Hemen Sen. Ravi Shankar ~ Kharaj Pancham design, made from mahogany.

This sitar was owned by a lovely lady who's no longer with us. It was made in 1969 and in storage for about 10 years before it found its way here to us. I spent a year getting to know it and completely rejuvenating it from the top down. It has a new top gourd which was made to order for it.

This is vintage Hemen work when he was at his best. Has a quarter-swan tabli at 12.75 inches and antler fittings and original bridge with new jawari.  The jawari is very open and a light touch so is best for those looking for a Ravi Shankar or Anoushka Shankar type action and tone. Light and easy to handle yet very solid. Comes with fiberglass cases for sitar and top gourd. I will also include a second fitted bridge as either a replica of the original or fitted jawari to your specifications as well as our standard accessoris.
