style Custom Concert Sitar
A nice treat from an established Miraj maker.
Ayub (RA Sitarmaker) became known years back
when he exported a number of instruments to the
West and then stopped. More
details here on the
history.
This is a custom all Miraj made instrument
that was a surprise to see almost finished on
our last visit. Generally their instruments are
Kolkata made but Ayub has started making a few
pieces in the old all Miraj style, each one
custom in design. We're happy to offer one of
them here and will get them from time to time if
I'm able to check them in India first.
This sitar features aged mahogany wood with
ebony bridges. It's strung in the Ravi Shankar
style and has many elaborate bird decorations
all in wood. It has a large 14 inch tabli and a
Pandharpur single piece gourd with matching top
tumba. Good sympathetic response, main string is
half closed with open kharaj. Includes
fiberglass cases for sitar and top gourd and has
been carefully handled and air shipped to us.
Current in stock model has rose carved solid ebony
pegs and a few other additions this time.
