Ayub/RA Sitarmaker Kharaj Pancham ~ Ravi Shankar style Custom Concert Sitar with natural wood inlay

Ayub continues to surprise us. The latest now from an established Miraj maker. Ayub (RA Sitarmaker) became known years back when he exported a number of instruments to the West and then stopped. More details here on the history.

This is a custom all Miraj made instrument that was a surprise to see almost finished on our last visit. Generally their instruments are Kolkata made but Ayub has started making a few pieces in the old all Miraj style, each one custom in design with no 2 ever exactly alike even on the same model. All the work is done by him personally from carving to fitting.

This sitar features aged mahogany wood with ebony bridges. It's strung in the Ravi Shankar style and has many elaborate bird decorations all in wood. It has a 13.5 inch tabli and a Pandharpur single piece gourd with matching top tumba. Ebony bridges, pegs are hardwood with natural materials on langot and select decorations. Wood is actually inlaid pieces, not painted as is common in many Miraj instruments. Includes fiberglass cases for sitar and top gourd and has been carefully handled and air shipped to us.

Current in stock model has rose carved ebony pegs and a few other additions this time.
