Radhey Shyam Sharma Kachuwa concert sitar.
7 main strings ~ 13 sympathetics
~ Ravi Shankar / Kharaj pancham style.
Made from aged mahogany and a half cut
gourd which is called katchuwa style due to
the tortoise (kachuwa) shape of the gourd. This sitar is
also unique in that it
is completely made within their shop. Almost unheard
of today, this is a feature of their best sitars
with 3 dimensional carvings finely detailed that
rival the best Kanai Lal sitars of the past. Faux
mother of pearl inlay combined with half decoration
lotus carving in a vintage style hardly seen
anymore. Has a beautiful deep sound due to the tabli
being nearly 15 inches wide and half open jawari has
been
done and easy action, lotus garland design on the
tabli. Traditional bridge material and floral main pegs with
bone tipped hardwood sympathetics and modern style sympathetic grommets. Radhey's
teak sitars project well and have a sound and
playability that equal the quality of workmanship
you see here. This sitar
was personally selected by us in Varanasi, we have fitted to
our specs and air shipped to our shop. Comes with a
fiberboard/rexine case. A remarkable
instrument from a great maker!
