 Concert Sitar in Ravi Shankar style ~ Kharaj Pancham

Naskar & Co. is a well known maker in Kolkata. I recently went to them and picked this sitar which really stood out. Now made by the original Naskars son Arabinda, they have nice seasoned wood and well trained craftsmen.

This particular instrument is a large sitar, 14 inches across on the tabli. It is more on the open side of jawari, with great sympathetic response and nice volume which shows the age of the wood. Traditional phulia, natural materials used on the bridges with old Burma teak legs on the main bridge. The striker rails are synthetic which is unique but look great. Brass langot and wooden top matched gourd. They used very nice wood on this one with equally nice polish and finish. It was personally checked and hand carried to the US by me and fine tuned here. Comes with fiberglass case for the sitar and for the upper gourd and our standard set of accessories.

Naskar sitars have to be checked in India, next ones are due in Summer of 2017.
