Mohan Lal Sharma Teak Sitar
Full
decoration teak sitar by Rajesh Sharma, son
of Mohan Lal Sharma
Kharaj Pancham
(Ravi Shankar style)
These are some of the best sitars I have
ever played, in the top 10 definitely.
Rajesh Sharma was trained well by his
father Mohan Lal, his
main shop is in Patna but he has a small shop in
Varanasi also. Mohan Lal's knowledge came from
almost 30 years of working with Radha Krishna Sharma
and was the only person fully trained by him.
This sitar features a combination of
Burmese (neck) and Assam teak with full
carving in rose garland style and monochrome penwork. Has a large 14 inch tabli.
Top gourd is natural. Very responsive and balanced sympathetics, round (gol)
jawari shape with natural materials for bridge and
fittings. Also has a kharaj bridge. The inside of
the neck is lined with mahogany wood to assist the
pegs in gripping, something generally never seen on
teak sitars....We get 2 per
year in this style...Includes fiberglass cases for the
sitar and top gourd.
