Mohan Lal Sharma Sitar
Mahogany (tun)
concert level professional sitar in Gulab Patta
design by Rajesh Sharma, son
of Mohan Lal Sharma
Kharaj Pancham
(Ravi Shankar style)
Full decoration
penwork/inlay. Full decoration Gulab patta (Rose)
with half decoration on the gulu.
These are some of the best sitars I have
ever played, in the top 10 definitely.
Rajesh Sharma was trained well by his
father Mohan Lal, who has since passed away. His
main shop is in Patna but he has a small shop in
Varanasi also. Mohan Lal's knowledge came from
almost 30 years of working with Radha Krishna Sharma
and was the only person fully trained by him. Mohan
Lal was also the person who trained the great
structure makers in Kolkata in the 60's so you'll
notice the designs are recognizable at times.
This sitar features aged mahogany and full
carvings and penwork It is his top model in
mahogany gulab patta design and has a large 13.75 inch tabli.
Gulab patta is also considered full decoration but
the gulu is not carved however the penwork, etc. is
the same. Top gourd is natural. Very responsive and balanced sympathetics,
closed main jawari shape and open sympathetic bridge with
synthetic materials for bridges and
natural for the fittings. Includes fiberglass case for the
sitar and top gourd.
