Mohan Lal Sharma studio sitars with natural gourd.
~
Kharaj pancham
setting ~
7 main strings ~ 13 sympathetics
Unique instruments from Rajesh at Mohan Lal,
these instrument bodies are made of aged mahogany
and the built structures aged another 10 years! I
spoke for them long ago and they're finally ready.
The unique ganja-patta design was originally made
for a Nepali musician who thought it would be a
unique design. These have 12 1/2 inch tablis and are
42 inches long. Full decoration carving and penwork,
ganja patta on the front and angoor patta on the
back. Style 2 has a composite bone bridge,
Style 1 has a full synthetic bridge made in the US
but carved and fitted by Rajesh.
The tone and action are wonderful, they
have round jawari on the main bridge and open
sympathetics. They're also slightly higher in pitch,
Style 1 is D/D# and Style 2 is key of E. I don't
know if we'll ever have this design again at least
in the near future...These come with custom sized
fiberglass cases! Also please refer to our
Q&A regarding the Varanasi
makers.
Gone forever!
