Some pictures from April 2013 when I visited Naeem Sitarmaker who is the latest in the oldest family of instrument makers of Miraj, India who have been making instruments for over 150 years. We work closely with Naeem and his father Naushad on the instruments they custom make for us with unique designs and construction.

Miraj was made famous by their quality tanpuras used by vocalists and in the last century they expanded and improved with sitar. For the past decade the trend had been towards using only outsourced instruments and parts from elsewhere in India and there was a danger of the art being lost. Naushad and Naeem are still producing locally made instruments and we have been working with them closely with innovations in design and construction to foster the continuation of this tradition in Miraj.
