Mohammed Waseem Concert Sitar
Custom headstock
Kharaj pancham (Ravi Shankar) style
From one of the
premier instrument makers in Miraj, Waseem is by far
the best carver and designer in India since Kanailal
& brother.
Aged tun/mahogany
wood, single piece Miraj gourds. Natural fittings
and bridges. Finish is shellac and very thin
providing a nice sound. Green/black
celluloid with extensive penwork and fancy tar gahan
and beads. Custom made fiberglass case with larger
top tumbi. Vintage style scroll carving on headstock
with side mounted main pegs. A very nice instrument!
Sound is
resonant and responsive with 1/2 open jawari. Waseems
bodies are easy to handle and not too heavy. He
makes his langot similar to a tanpura style string
mount so no loops needed for main strings. Secondary and final
fitting done here at the edge of the world by yours
truly.
I've known
Waseem for a very long time and happy to now be
offering his instruments. We visit yearly and are in
constant touch, the instruments are a nice
combination of both of our skills together!
Waseems
instruments are each unique so there are no carbon
copies although a nearly exact model can be ordered
if desired.
Air shipped (always) and fiberglass
included, shipping will vary depending on your
location. Designs and colors will vary slightly.
